➤Real Listening is an active process

Beyond communicative approach

What is Beyond the Communicative Approach to Language Teaching.

➧Language is a means of communication.

➧The communicative approach seeks to make meaningful communication and language use a focus all classroom activities.

The method came as a reaction against te grammar-based aproaches such as the audiolingual method and grammar translation methods of foreing language instruction that ignored that the goal of language learning is COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE.

The listening process is often described from an information processing perspective as “an active process in which listeners select and interpret information that comes from auditory and visual clues in order to define what is going on and what the speakers are trying to express.
The major listening problems as follows:

➤lack of control over the speed at which speakers speak ,
➤not being able to get things repeated,
➤the listener’s limited vocabulary,
➤failure to recognize the “signals,”
➤problems of interpretation,
➤inability to concentrate, and
➤established learning habits.

But fortunately there are strategies to teach your students listening comprehension.

Strategies for Developing Listening Skills

Language learning depends on listening. Listening provides the aural input that serves as the basis for language acquisition and enables learners to interact in spoken communication.

Effective language instructors show students how they can adjust their listening behavior to deal with a variety of situations, types of input, and listening purposes. They help students develop a set of listening strategies and match appropriate strategies to each listening situation.

So we have to remember
which are Procedures in Teaching Listening

➤Pre-Listening Activity

➤Whilst-Listening Activity

➤Post-Listening Activity

Also we worked in group. We Discussed about strategies for oral expression.

Example.

What are the features of spoken discourse? What are some implications for teaching based on the spoken language’s features?

Group presentations

G1, G2, and G3

The three groups made a good presentation and they performed activities to implement and develop listening comprehension and oral expression.

The groups implemented different dynamics where speaking and listening were put into practice.
Each group worked differently, some of them talked about the meaning of listening, its components, how and when to do it etc.

The three groups performed excellent activities.
😃

Listening comprehension is the basis for your speaking, writing and reading skills. To train your listening skills, it is important to listen actively, which means to actively pay attention to what you are listening to. Make it a habit to listen to audio books, podcasts, news, songs, etc. and to watch videos and films in the foreign language.
You should know that there are different types of listening:

Listening for gist: you listen in order to understand the main idea of the text.

Listening for specific information: you want to find out specific details, for example key words.

Listening for detailed understanding: you want to understand all the information the text provides.

Before you listen to a text, you should be aware of these different types. You will have to decide what your purpose is. Becoming aware of this fact will help you to both focus on the important points and reach your goal.
